Importing Easter Bunnies to England in November: Jill Carole
and Paul Robinson
By Sylvia Morris
I've had Jill Carole's album "The Easter Bunny,
Sex and Santa Claus" for a couple of years now and had been
hoping for a while to hear some of the songs performed live.
Recently Jill and her husband /guitarist /arranger Paul Robinson
opened for Al Stewart at various places on the English part
of his European tour, so I finally got to hear some of this
music live. And I did like what I heard!
Anyone who reads the album's lyrics can appreciate that they
are well written; but to see them performed by the author
at close quarters was something else! I've seen various people
open for Al Stewart over the years and this duo were up there
with the best.
Jill
has a good voice (c.f. Kate Bush? Tori Amos? Debbie Harry?)
and she uses it well. Her voice soars and floats around the
melody and when she adds a little "dramatic effect" it gets
even better.
Particular stand-outs were "Sugarcoated Ways" which really
demonstrated the range of Jill's voice and "It Was Paris,"
a song ostensibly about losing one's virginity and trying
to get it back! Both of these tracks will be included on Jill's
upcoming album.
