She is woman, hear her roar! Singer-Songwriter-guitarist-keyboardist JILL CAROLE belts it out this week on local stages before setting out on a UK tour next month with former Zombie Colin Blunstone. A graduate of the Berklee School of Music, Carole just released her new CD entitled The Easter Bunny, Sex and Santa Claus and it's a doozie. Her lyrics are smart and sassy, with enough humor to offset the serious subject matter-love, betrayal and revenge, sung with a bittersweet resonance that reverberates in the heart. Her vibrant independence is reminiscent of Kate Bush or Tori Amos or maybe a mature Fiona Apple, but Carole knows not to take herself too seriously and delivers a smile after the heavy stuff. Onstage, she commands attention with a whipping head of hair and that alluring voice. Catch her now, before she's off across the Atlantic. Jill Carole will perform Thursday, April 9 at New George's in San Rafael at 9 pm with guitarist/bassist Paul Robinson. She and Robinson are also scheduled to perform Tuesday April 14 at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley as part of the Local Gold showcase and Friday, April 24 at Borders Books in San Rafael. Thoroughly Southern Jill

Although Jill Carole says she has probably been writing songs since she could talk, at one point she tried to become a novelist - unsuccessfully. "I didn't like all the time and solitude it took," she explains.

Instead, Carole prefers the immediacy of music and the gratification of performing. Raised on Beethoven, Mozart ,and the Beatles by her mother, an opera singer, Carole says "there was always music around" when she was a kid.

Now that her husband guitarist/producer Paul Robinson has pulled Carole out of her self-described "reclusive shell,' it looks like she won't have to worry about feeling solitary anytime soon. She was recently signed to a U.K. label, Mystic Records, and will be embarking on her very first tour this May in England, as a supporting act for former Zombies lead singer, Colin Blunstone.
